My name is Jos van der Werf. I started Gedetec for a simple reason: I became fascinated by the possibilities of generative design. The shapes that algorithms can create never get boring. Besides that, it is becoming more and more important to build machines sustainably. Building lightweight structures can help with that.
The mission of Gedetec is to inspire, encourage, and help other companies to build their machines more sustainably by designing lighter parts with less material, lower production and assembly costs, while maintaining important part specifications.
By using generative design or topology optimization tools for part design optimization, a typical weight reduction of about 70% to 80% is not uncommon among the majority of part designs.
Generative design is often linked to additive manufacturing, which is considered an expensive manufacturing method. Smart utilization of both technologies can enable a cost-effective result, not only for the part production itself but also by shortening the assembly times. This is usually achieved by combining the functionality of multiple parts into a single, but more complex, part.
